The Academic Art of Riding Bent Branderup Trainers know that the horses softness of body and mental calmness must be prioritized above all other requirements to ensure a relaxed and happy partnership and a language is gradually taught so that the horses and the humans can communicate softly, without force from the ground in a manner that can be applied to riding later on. Many stallions are being taught in this manner within AAoR and there is no horse breed, or age ( over 3 for starting on the ground) or size that this is not suitable for. It is also excellent for rehabbing an injured horse. It is believed in the AAoR that gymnastic exercises must never be carried out with tension (tension in the mind creates tension in the body - and stiffness of muscles also creates tension in the mind and the body) and any exercise carried out with tension will be worthless at best and harmful at worst. Bent Branderup also teaches that there is no such thing as a lazy horse, only a stiff horse.
